Dead & Company Coming to St. Louis

When I learned that Dead & Company is going to be in my hometown, I had mixed feelings. I'd love to go but I'm avoiding crowds, even with my vaccination, so I'll have to catch them another time. That said, if anyone wants to attend the show on September 13 at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater, you should know that they are requiring health checks to help maintain safety as much as possible.

September Gardening

What are you doing in September for your garden? Right now we've got mums and morning glories blooming all over the place, and our strawberries are DONE. Most of my spring babies are dead and I've been doing something silly--sticking in random Halloween fake flowers here and there just for some spooky color (and eyeballs). What can I say, I can never not get excited when September gets here.

The Story of a Tabby's Stripes

From zebras to tigers, plenty of animals have stripes, but how do they get there? Scientists now have the answer--for domestic cats, at least. Tabbies are one of the most common types of cat, and scientists now know that they get their distinctive pattern while developing in the womb. Cat stripe patterns develop on the animal's skin cells. The genes that cause the stripes develop before the fur is even in the picture!

Seattle Food Bucket List

Seattle is home to some of the best foods in the world, but it seems like there are more created every year without giving anyone a chance to catch up. It's hard to list every food to try when there are so many creative geniuses coming up with new recipes and flavors daily. There are several ways to go about creating a Seattle Food Bucket list.

Cookiecutter Sharks Are The Ocean's Honey Badgers

If there's a honey badger of the ocean, it's the cookie-cutter shark. Why is it a cookie-cutter? Because it bites cookie-sized chunks out of larger animals and it doesn't even care. On top of that, the sharks look like aliens, with green eyes and long, sock pocket-like shapes that can grow up to 50 centimeters in length. They may be much smaller than a Great White shark, but that's the kind of animal they attack with those teeth!

WarioWare: Get It Together! to Release Soon

WarioWare: Get It Together! releases in just a couple of days and reviews look pretty mixed. The game is a minigame party video game that follows nine other installations in the series. It has many more characters than Mario lovers may know if they're new to the series, and many gamers who've played sneak peeks of the game say it's a little too complicated for its own good.

Best Celebrity 80s Looks

80s fashions and styles are quite welcome in 2021, especially for people who long for a less stressful time. Bright patterns, bold colors and big hair are also just fun to play with no matter who or how old you are. It makes sense for celebrities to want to explore these looks, especially when we are having an 80s throwback in Hollywood in terms of movies and TV shows.

Animals Adapting to Climate Change

Animal adaptations are always fascinating. Who isn't astounded by the kinds of adaptations cave animals experience to adjust to their environments over time? But the fact that animals are adapting in real-time to adjust to climate change is both impressive and worrisome. Scientists are discovering that warm-blooded animals are already shifting for this rapidly changing world.

Frog Secretions For Human Health

It makes sense that scientists would want to study frogs to find out how to better serve humans. Between the animals already serving as a barometer of how messed up an area might be to the various incredible functions of a frog's body, they are really amazing creatures. But when it comes to secretions they make during the mating process, it really doesn't sound like a great conversation topic, let alone something we'd want to utilize for human health.

Food From Electricity

Freaky news isn't always baffling or horror-stricken. In fact, freaky is often fascinating and even fruitful, as we can see with the news that India is implementing technology to transform the country's food waste into electricity. It's an innovative solution that might help lead other nations to generate cleaner energy.

Dead & Co at Boston Music Center

More and more bands are having concerts as they are vaccinated or as restrictions are lifted and many of us have conflicted feelings. As much as we miss going to concerts, we're still wary of crowds, especially if it means exposing loved ones to germs. When events are distanced and outdoors, it does make them seem safer, but it's still a gray area that most of us don't know how to best answer.
